The New River SWCD is accepting bids until 12PM on Friday, May 24, 2024, via mail to the District office: New River SWCD, 200 Jacks Orchard Road, Galax, VA 24333 or email to: ecoomes.newriver@gmail.com. Minimum bid starting at $2,000. Approximately 8,000 acres and comes with assorted parts. For more information contact the office at (276) 601-6163.

New River Hill Farm & Forest Grand Opening

The New River SWCD welcomes the public to the Grand Opening of New River Hill Farm & Forest on Friday, April 12, at 10 AM. The ceremony will be held at the new parking lot located at 2140 Englewood Rd, Galax, VA 24333.

Carroll County VCE Drinking Water Clinic
A drinking water clinic will be held at the Carroll County Virginia Cooperative Extension office-205 Oak Street Hillsville, Virginia, 24343 (Old Elementary School Building). The cost is $70 per sample.
Water Test Includes: Iron, manganese, sulfate, hardness, fluoride, sodium, copper, nitrate, arsenic, pH, lead, e. coli bacteria, coliform bacteria, and total dissolved solids.
To register call the Carroll County VCE office at 276-730-3113 or email pottorff@vt.edu by June 18, 2024 to reserve a kit.
- June 25, 2024, 6:30 PM kick off informational meeting and pick up sample kit with instructions for sampling.
- June 26, 2024, 7-10 AM drop off sample at the Carroll County VCE Office
- July 30, 2024, 6:30 PM receive your test results, an explanation and information about how to handle any problems

The 2023 Clean Water Farm Award for New-Yadkin River Basin awarded to John Fant & Summerfield Pastoral Farms. The award honors farmers who implement great conservation practices and contribute to the preservation of water quality.

On September 20th, 2023, Brandon Tomlinson was recognized for 5 years of service at the New River Soil and Water Conservation District. The dedication that Brandon shows serves as a vital role that drives our District. We take pride in his accomplishments and commitment. The District looks forward to seeing all the great things we know he will fulfill in the upcoming years! Congratulations on achieving this anniversary!
